Maspalomas can be found in the South of Gran Canaria and has long been popular with overseas visitors thanks to the beautiful golden beaches that stretch for miles from the resort.
The beach sits alongside imposing sand dunes that could have been lifted straight from the Sahara Desert, with year round sun making it the ideal destination for those travelling with their families who want to embrace the beach lifestyle.
Maspalomas sits little more than 30km away from the airport, so you don't need to worry about a lengthy transfer when your flight draws to a close, which is another reason why those who are travelling with children will be able to see the appeal of a trip to the beach resort.
That's not to say that there isn't just as much to do for couples as well, whilst lone travellers will also be able to embrace the resort has to offer.
Maspalomas is known for the sand dunes that go on as far as the eye can see as well as an impressive stretch of beach that lines shallow waters that are perfect for taking a refreshing dip to cool off.
It's not just a beach on which to relax however, with the chance to take part in a range of different water-based activities, including jet skis and water skiing if you want to do more than just top up the tan.
Alongside the beach, a promenade is packed with shops, cafes and bars where you can grab a bite to eat or something to drink.
It's perhaps worth noting that there are areas of nudist beach close to the resort; just in order to avoid any surprises...
This friendly resort has so many things to do that everyone will be kept entertained - regardless of their age.
Golf lovers will be able to have a round at one of the various course both in and around the resort, some of which are linked to their own hotels, whilst there is a water park just 4km from the centre of Maspalomas that is sure to prove popular with the youngsters thanks to a range of water slides and a lazy river.
Of course, whilst they have all the fun, adults can relax in the sun and top up the tan - assuming they don't want to get involved themselves...
A short drive from the heart of Maspalomas you will come across a Wild West themed attraction; Sioux City. At Sioux City you can enjoy themed shows including gun fights, saloon fights and barbecues, with the entire park being created as a replica of a Wild West Town, complete with authentic houses, church and a saloon.
Also worth a visit is Maspalomas Lighthouse, which is of the most famous buildings in the resort, whilst the nearby marina is the place to go if you want to embark on one of a range of cruises that are available.
Fresh seafood is also available in plentiful supply whilst you are there.
When it comes to a little retail therapy, there is a range of shops and boutiques selling all sorts of goods, and a bustling market with locally produced goods aplenty.
The nightlife in Maspalomas is quite good with bars and restaurants dotted throughout the resort.
You could enjoy a quiet meal in a beachfront restaurant or a drink in one of the bars at the harbour, with most places welcoming families with children as well as couples and those looking for a relaxing place to dine.
There are a limited number of nightclubs for those who want to dance the night away, although those who want to party might be better advised to hop in a taxi and make the trip to Playa del Ingles.
Maspalomas has accommodation to suit all budgets, whether you are seeking an all inclusive five star luxury hotel, or a self catering apartment or villa, you will not be short of places to stay.
Those who elect to go self catering can make use of the many mini-markets and supermarkets that are within easy walking distance across the resort, whilst a little more luxury could see you in a beachfront hotel with all mod cons and facilities that will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed by the time you head for home.
